Pay Your Bills from Your Smartphone

Pay Your Bills from Your Smartphone

There is something unpleasant about paying bills and it goes beyond the fact that you are going to have less cash at the end of it. You must manage your checkbook, envelopes, stamps, and various other things that make people less than enthusiastic about bill payments. In an ideal world, the best phone service would be one that could make our coffee in the morning or pay our bills. These days, the latter is already a reality thanks to an app recently released by Mitek Mobile, further increasing the number of roles that our smartphones play in our daily lives.

Mobile Photo Bill Pay

Mitek Mobile has created an app called Mobile Photo Bill Pay that allows you to pay your bills just by taking a photo of the bill you want paid, as well as verifying your account information. In their demo video, it shows the app scanning your bill for basic information like the company name, amount to be paid, and the address. After scanning, it lets you verify the information it has gathered before letting it access your bank account.

Their tagline for the app is “Point. Shoot. Pay.” According to Mitek Mobile, some benefits that may be enjoyed while using the app are: doing less work since the app’s software does the process of paying your bill through you mobile phone. This means no more out of the way trips when you simply do not have the time. Paying bills is clearly made much more convenient, not to mention done faster. They say that the app is best for non-recurring bills and this is because the app automatically adds the information of the payee for non-recurring bills.

Also, according to Mitek Mobile’s blog post last October, Mobile Photo Bill Pay not only benefits the customers but extends the advantages to banks as well. Some of these benefits include: being able to offer the bank’s clients a faster and easier way to pay their bills and incorporating the app to significantly improve the bank’s electronic banking application thanks to the app’s in-class features. The app is said to be able to extract data from the bank’s remittance coupons by way of optical character recognition (OCR), and its more advanced counterpart, intelligent character recognition.  The app can be easily integrated into the bank’s applications as well.

Other features of the app are said to be that all image processing, communication and data extraction are encapsulated and that Mitek Mobile’s servers are the ones that perform any heavy processing, with the results being returned to the smartphone.

Mobile Photo Bill Pay is only one of the numerous mobile apps that Mitek offers. Its other apps let you deposit checks and many other functions, all with your smartphone. The announcement of its release was in early October only being available to iOS, but is now available to Android and BlackBerry users as well.
